Support Local Walker – 12th Annual Kidney March
I am not a hero. I am, however, walking in honor of the many who are – these are the men, women, and children who endure the hardships of kidney disease. I am walking in the 12th Annual Kidney March.
Why? Kidneys are two of the hardest working organs in your body, removing waste, excess water, and controlling mineral and hormone levels. When your kidneys aren’t functioning, it impacts every aspect of your life. Because you can lose up to 80% of your kidney function without symptoms, many people don’t know they have kidney disease until their kidneys are already failing. 15 Canadians are newly diagnosed with kidney failure every day. Unfortunately, kidney disease is a leading cause of death in Canada and there is no cure.
I am a dedicated supporter of the Kidney Foundation in memory of my late wife Linda.
Linda suffered from kidney failure and was on dialysis for two years, then one of Linda’s Sisters , Esther, donated one of her kidney’s to Linda. The transplant and life with the transplanted kidney went very well for over ten years. Sadly, Linda passed away in March of 2017 from a complication from another surgery. I am aware of other family and friends that have kidney function issues, kidney disease along with other kidney problems are much bigger than society realizes, 1 in 10 people have kidney problems as was mentioned above.
