Arnold "Bob" Nelson

Arnold, known as Bob to everyone, passed away August 19, 2021, in the Victoria Hospital, with his son by his side.
Bob was born in Tyndall, MB. At age 17, he came to Henribourg, SK, to work for his uncle. There he met the love of his life, Sophie Korczak. On August 5, 1950, they were married.
He operated the Northstar Oil business, delivering fuel to the area farmers. He also worked for the rural telephone company. His dream was to become a firefighter, and in 1956 that dream came true. As the years passed, they raised 3 children, Jim, Cindy and Sharyn.
Bob spent 32 years proudly protecting The City, retiring in 1988 as Deputy Fire Chief. During that time he spent 3 terms with the Public School Board, helping to shape the path of education in Prince Albert.
Bob and Sophie also operated the lottery kiosk in the Gateway Mall for 15 years and then the South Hill Mall for another 10 years.
While at the fire hall, he also farmed and gardened in Henribourg, SK. Shortly after he retired, he started renting the farm, but continued to garden, growing an abundance of vegetables and sharing them with family and friends. As his grandsons grew up, they would accompany him to the farm.
For many years he went to the Heritage Center to socialize and play cards. Being with these friends meant the world to him. The most enjoyment came at the potluck suppers. His specialty for these events were homemade relish, which everyone enjoyed.
They enjoyed going on many Casino bus trips. The most enjoyable was to Winnipeg, MB, where he visited with his sister and brother-in-law. He also enjoyed curling.
Bob was proud to be a firefighter, telling many stories about the good, but few about the bad fires. A highlight of his retirement was the coffee meetings with the other retirees.
Bob is survived by his wife of 71 years, Sophie (nee Korczak). His son, James (Angie) Nelson and their children, Cara (Andrew) Pete of Saskatoon, SK and their children, Allison of Kelowna, BC, Devin of Saskatoon, SK, Steven (Stacey) Nelson and their children, Zoe and Jaycee formerly of North Battleford and now Chilliwack, BC, Laura (Callum) Olver and their children, Teagan, Petra and Nixie of Prince Albert, SK, and Michael (Tara) Nelson of Prince Albert, SK. His daughters, Cindy (Michael) Adams of Livingston, Montana, Sharyn Houle (Kane Kachur) of Saskatoon and her children, Riley Houle (Rachel Courtice) of Saskatoon, SK, Kelsey Houle (Matthew Doucette) of Big River, SK. His brother-in-law, Al Cormier of Winnipeg, MB; his sister-in-law, Stella McKeand of Prince Albert, SK; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Herman & Josephine Nelson of Tyndall, MB; his sister, Christine Cormier of Winnipeg, MB; his in-laws, Michael & Agnes Korczak of Prince Albert, SK; his brothers-in-law, Gene McKeand of Prince Albert, SK; Frank & Tina Korczak of Ontario, Mary & Mike Dudar of Ontario.
