MELFORT, Sask. — The federal government said precautionary measures will be addressed along rail lines to address safety concerns resulting from extreme weather and wildfire risks.
An unprecedented wildfire displaced hundreds of people in Lytton, BC, the Lytton First Nation, and surrounding areas. Extreme weather and wildfire risk continues to pose a danger in British Columbia, as well as other parts of Canada.
Transport Minister Omar Alghabra ordered a 48-hour stop to rail transport in parts of British Columbia while new restrictions will remain until Oct. 31.
The order also spelled out localized safety measures for operations between Kamloops and Boston Bar or between Kamloops and North Bend on the Thompson and Ashcroft branch tracks.
