The Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) President Mary Robinson said the changes will assist Canadian farmers, fishers and small businesses in turning over their enterprises to the next generation.

There is more focus on spring wheat compared to medium and soft wheat as price spreads between classes of wheat have changed substantially.

According to the Sask Wheat market outlook, the spread between Chicago wheat and Minneapolis spring wheat has moved from minus 11 cents per bushel in January to plus 1.18 cents per bushel last week which is a signal of the demand for protein or high protein spring wheat relative to lower protein wheat.

The report compiled by Mercantile Consulting Venture said it is the result of lower spring wheat seeding projections in North America with the U.S. is down 5 per cent and Canada at roughly 10 per cent.

Traders continue to watch the weather in South America, new developments in Russia, and whether China will continue to buy aggressively.
