Trevor Bloom returned home to a familiar layout to win the 2021 Fountain Tire Men’s Lobstick on Saturday at the Waskesiu Golf Course, a place he’s played at for 40 years.

The 48-year-old Bloom, who now resides in Kelowna, won the weeklong tournament for the first time in his career and explained he used to visit the course as a kid.

“It’s very special to win here,” he said.

He grew up an hour south of the Prince Albert National Park in Canwood, Sask.

The final day of the tournament between Bloom and Prince Albert’s Ashley Ziegeman came down to the final hole on 18 when Bloom knocked in a long birdie putt to seal the deal.

“Ashley got in a little bit of trouble off the tee. [He] got right behind a tree and so he had to chip out and then he was scrambling a little bit. I just put it on the green and I just basically had to two putt for the win and it happened to go in for birdie,” Bloom told paNOW.

He added he’s known Ziegeman from playing him in matches before and said there’s been plenty of close battles between the two of them.

In the second round Bloom explained he got to play against his brother as well.

“That was pretty special to play against him too it was a good match I had to hole a 30-footer for birdie on 18 to send it to extra holes and I beat him on the fourth extra hole, so it was a pretty memorable match too,” Bloom said.

“Thank you to Andrew and Tyler because I know this is a long week for them and they go to a lot of work to put on this tournament so it’s always a great event.”
