RCMP investigate woman’s death at Crystal Springs hotel

Jun 2, 2021 | 5:00 PM

A woman’s death in a small community southeast of Prince Albert is raising a lot of questions— and there are very few answers at this stage of the investigation.

The incident happened early Tuesday morning. According to a statement provided to paNOW, Melfort RCMP responded to a complaint of a sudden death outside a business in Crystal Springs. Sources close to the incident confirmed the said business is the hamlet’s Hotel and Bar.

“At this time, pending final results of the Saskatchewan Coroners Service’s autopsy and toxicology, preliminary indication is that no foul play is suspected in relation to the woman’s death,” the police statement said.

At 6:37 a.m. on Tuesday, a post to the hotel’s Facebook page announced they would be closed that day. Another post on Wednesday, further indicated the business would remain closed for the next two days.

Crystal Springs is located roughly 50km. southeast of Prince Albert and is located within the Rural Municipality (RM) of Invergordon.

Reeve Bruce Hunter said when incidents like the one Tuesday occur, and there is a visible police presence, speculation rises.

“People are always inquisitive and a small town is worse than anywhere because things don’t happen very often,” he said.

Hunter said he was unaware of any details, other than hearing the woman was in her 20’s and had recently graduated from University.
