The Arctic Gateway Group Board of Directors, along with the OneNorth communities, have announced the appointment of Sheldon Affleck as chief executive officer.

Affleck co-founded Mobil Grain and served as president from 2004 until its acquisition by AGT Foods in 2015. His engineering experience included coordinating the washout repair of the Hudson Bay Railway (HBR).

Daren Young will serve as chief financial officer while Bill Drew also joins the operations team.

Arctic Gateway Group Limited Partnership owns and operates the Port of Churchill, Hudson Bay Railway, Arctic Gateway Freight Services and Churchill Marine Tank Farm.

The Canadian Beef Industry conference will once again be held virtually this year.

The change was made last year when gatherings were restricted due to the pandemic.

Conference organizers have also decided to move the event a few weeks later Aug. 31 to Sept. 2.

Each day there will be a variety of sessions and attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and gain further insight from all speakers and panelists.

The Canadian Seed Growers’ Association (CSGA) has named its new executive director.

Doug Miller will take over from Glyn Chancey, who is retiring after five years leading the organization.

Miller holds an MBA with a food and agribusiness specialization from the University of Guelph, a biology degree, and an advanced project management certification from Stanford University.

Before joining CSGA, Miller worked with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), where he gained field experience with their seeds program.

CSGA also announced Caroline Lafontaine has been appointed as chief operating officer.
