Louis Robert R. Neefs
March 27, 1943 – March 5, 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Louis Neefs, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK on Friday, March 5, 2021 at the age of 77.
Louis was born at home in Hoey, SK, the youngest of five, to Robert and Marie Neefs. When he was in grade 8, his family moved to Prince Albert where he later met the love of his life, Joan. They were married on September 4, 1965 and together lovingly and proudly raised 3 children – Jasmin, Tara, and Lindsey. With his children, he instilled a strong sense of family and imparted the values of kindness, honesty, acceptance, and respect. Louis cherished his family and always put them first.
Louis had a strong work ethic and was proud to be employed with the provincial government, at North Park Centre and then at Saskatchewan Penitentiary, with the federal government. Although Louis was a dedicated worker, he also enjoyed life to its fullest and especially loved spending time outdoors. Hunting and fishing with his friends and family, especially his nephews and brothers-in-law, were some of his favorite pastimes. Louis especially relished his time at his cabin at Emma Lake, spending many happy summers there with Joan, his children, and later his grandchildren.
Louis will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Joan (nee MacDonald); his daughter, Jasmin Tiessen (Karl) of Prince Albert, SK; his daughter, Tara Mayoros (Brent) of Dawson Creek, BC; his son, Lindsey Neefs of Calgary, AB; and his 3 precious grandchildren: Maggie, Abby, and Bryce. He is also mourned by his sisters-in-law, Muriel Young and Inez MacDonald; his brother-in-law, Victor Leo (Karen) MacDonald; and his much loved nieces and nephews.
Louis was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Marie Neefs; his sisters: Lucille (John) Brown, Yvette (Nick) Danyluk, Roberta (Leon) Tournier, and Raymonde (Tony) Wingerter; his nephew Brian Brown; his niece, Duwayne Barnett; his mother-in-law, Margaret MacDonald; his brothers-in-law: Norman MacDonald, Hector MacDonald, and Leonard MacDonald; and a number of other close family members.
A celebration of Louis’ life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in honor of Louis may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society.
A special thank you to Prince Albert Home Care Palliative Team, Dr. Painter, and the nursing team on floor 5 at the Victoria Hospital for their professionalism and kind support. We also wish to thank all those who have helped us at this difficult time.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306) 922-4729.
