Bonnie Hawryluk

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Bonnie Ann Hawryluk. She passed peacefully in her home, with her family by her side, on Friday, January 29, 2021, at the age of 66 years. Bonnie was born in Prince Albert to Paul and Olga Hawryluk on Friday, June 4, 1954. She was raised on the family farm in Red Deer Hill in a home where culture, heritage, hard work and family were paramount. Bonnie graduated Composite High School in Prince Albert, and later completed her training in hairdressing. In her early twenties she began what was to be a 40-year career as a hairdresser. She excelled at her trade and was awarded multiple times in recognition for her skills. Many of her clients became lifelong friends during these years.
Mom once said, “As far back as I remember, on my many talks with my Gido, all I wanted was two children. Got that.” Her first son, Desmond, was born on July 7, 1973, and second son, Dustin, on August 19, 1975. Her sons were her pride and joy and she raised them in Prince Albert as a single mother. Bonnie was an active parent and dedicated her life to her sons. The echoes of her voice can still be heard in the hockey rinks and ball diamonds of Prince Albert where she cheered them on. While raising the boys, Bonnie continued her career as a hairdresser, and in later years, worked alongside them at Sleep Comfy. She cherished spending time with Desmond and Dustin whenever she could, and formed relationships with their friends as well.
Bonnie was known for the wide variety of delicious dishes that she would prepare with so much love. She also loved tending to her yard, flowers and garden. She attempted to pass down her gardening knowledge to her daughters-in-law, but it remains unclear if she succeeded in helping them have a green thumb. Bonnie belonged to and volunteered to Veselka and enjoyed making traditional foods to share with family and friends. In all that Bonnie did, she truly believed to “Enjoy Life…It’s Delicious!”
Mom also prayed for grandchildren and was blessed with her four “precious angels” who were her pride and joy. She attended everything from hockey, to baseball games, and dance recitals, but most important to her were the days spent at Candle Lake with them and family. Baba passed down her heritage to her grandchildren by teaching them how to bake, cook, and braid hair. She perfected creating birthday cakes and granted every cake design requested by them. She was present at every event and has left her grandchildren with many memories to cherish. Bonnie was the best Baba.
Bonnie was a force to be reckoned with and made sure her opinion was known, however, she valued family and would go to the ends of the earth for them. She called a spade a spade and people loved her for it. This sometimes made for interesting family dynamics, however, family has always been the foundation of the Hawryluk family. In true Hawryluk fashion, her family supported her in her final hours. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children: Desmond (Jill) and Abby; Dustin (Annette), Kash, Maya and Vida.
Also left to mourn her passing are her sisters, Diane (Wally) Bazowski, Sonya (Terry) Leeb, Carol (John) Gross; sister-in-law, Ethel Hawryluk; nephews, Tim (Jamie) Hawryluk, and Chloe & Allie; Justin (Ashlee) Leeb, and Dominic, Kenzie, & Jax; Jordan (Leslie) Leeb and Cohen; nieces, Lisa (Dean) Nahachewsky, and Molly & Maksym; Larisa (Manny) Reis and Lola, Cruz, Jett, Bella, & Boh; Ashley Leeb (Mike Favreau); and aunt, Helen Hawryluk; as well as many extended family members and friends. She had a special place in her heart for cousins Ron Hawryluk and Deb Hyshka as well as her dearest and lifelong friend Bonnie Harrison.
Bonnie is predeceased by her parents, Paul and Olga Hawryluk; and brother, Irwin Hawryluk.
