Roughriders sign Moore to contract extension

The man known as Swerve is returning to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The CFL team announced Wednesday it had signed receiver Kyran Moore to a one-year contract extension. He could have become a free agent Feb. 9.

The move comes less than two weeks after Moore reportedly had a tryout with the NFL’s New York Giants.

The 5-foot-10, 165-pound product of Bessemer, Ala., joined the Roughriders in 2018 out of Austin Peay University, where he started his college career as a defensive back.

He played 10 games with the Roughriders in 2018, catching 32 passes for 475 yards and a touchdown and returning 29 punts for 389 yards and two TDs.

Moore appeared in 18 regular-season games in 2019, recording 78 catches for 996 yards and six TDs. He added nine receptions for 119 yards in the Roughriders’ loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2019 West Division final.

Moore finished second to Shaq Evans (1,334 yards) in receiving yards among the 2019 Roughriders. Evans also recently signed a contract extension with Saskatchewan.

The new contract will take the 24-year-old Moore through the 2021 CFL season.
