Agriculture Roundup for Tuesday January 12, 2021

Jan 12, 2021 | 11:03 AM

MELFORT, Sask. – The Beef Cattle Research Council is collaborating with practicing veterinarians across Canada to build and modify the tools they use or share with their beef clients to improve herd health and profitability.

Practicing beef veterinarians can sign up to be notified when new decision tools become available.

Vets can provide input so easy-to-use resources can be developed that are effective for both the vet practice and the farmers and ranchers they serve.

Registered vets will receive a notification when the 10-minute survey opens.

The Saskatchewan Ranch Management Forum continues this week and is being held entirely online this year.

The first week will focus on forage topics and take place live from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Today’s session will discuss way to rejuvenate a forage stand. Tomorrow there will be discussion on new varieties and the final two days will deal with corn grazing for cows as well as cover crops and how it can be used in a new forage rotation.

The second week of presentations will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will deal with ways to improve the herd.

This year’s event is free, and producers can register through their local Sask Ag office or at the Agriculture Knowledge Centre.

Saskatchewan Agriculture will hold a 4R Nutrient Stewardship Workshop Series to help producers get back to the basics of soil fertility concepts.

Each session from Jan. 25 to 28 will focus on a different aspect of 4R – time, placement, rate, and source.

Register online for each day as they are separate events.
