UPDATE: Snow slows traffic west of Prince Albert

Apr 15, 2026 | 1:08 PM

As of 2 p.m. on April 15, the Saskatchewan Highway Hotline has removed the “travel not recommended” alert for the route between North Battleford and Lloydminster.

While Prince Albert faces yet another round of snow that is reducing visibility to the west and north of the city, the situation is worse in the Nipawin area and on the highways around Lloydminster.

Updates from Highway Hotline recommend not travelling in the Lloydminster area, including Highway 16 from Maidstone to Marshall, Highway 17 between the Junction with Highway 40 and the Lone Rock Access and Highway 21. Travel is also not recommended on Highway 17 between Onion Lake and Lloydminster.

Roads are covered with anything from snow drifts to slush and ice.

West of Prince Albert, drivers will see reduced visibility, slush, heavy and swirling snow.

Impacted highways include Highway 2 between Highways 263 and 916, the junction of Highway 2 to Prince Albert National Park, Highway 264, Highway 953 and Highway 791 between Paddockwood and Northside.

Travel is not recommended in these areas due to the heavy snow and drifts.

A similar advisory was issued for the Nipawin region and has not yet been lifted.

A snowfall warning has been issued for the eastern half of Central Saskatchewan with 15 to 20 cm. Cumberland House will see the heaviest accumulations.

Around Prince Albert and extending to the Battlefords area, the snow is expected to end soon but residents could still see some freezing drizzle and a chance of flurries tomorrow and Friday before it warms up to plus 6 and sun on Sunday.

By Tuesday, temperatures could hit 16 C.
