Lorraine Cecile Finnestad, 77, of St. Louis SK, passed away on January 4, 2021, at the Herb Bassett Home in Prince Albert, SK. Lorraine had battled cancer since 2014. Her final days were spent with her husband and daughter, enjoying video calls with family and listening to Elvis.
Lorraine was born in New Westminster, BC to Robert and Isobel Edwards. She had one older sibling, Roberta. Lorraine and Roberta loved getting into trouble together while they were growing up in Whalley, BC. In school, Lorraine excelled and focused on secretarial courses during her high school years. After high school, Lorraine’s family moved to Los Angeles, California, where she worked as a secretary at an insurance company.
While serving as a bridesmaid at her friend Donna’s wedding, she met the groom’s brother and love of her life, Ed Finnestad. Lorraine and Ed were married, and she moved from California to the family farm at St. Louis, SK. They had two children, Kris and Karen. Lorraine loved traveling, gardening, the outdoors, baking, and going on camping trips to Waskesiu Lake with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Lorraine is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ed; sister Roberta Thielen of Agassiz, BC; son Kris (Denise) and grandsons Rob and Rick of Ramsey, Minnesota; daughter Karen (Les) Cragg and grandchildren Emily and Erik of Prince Albert, SK; many nieces and nephews and her beloved cat Scruffy.
Lorraine was predeceased by her parents Robert (Bob) and Isobel (née Newton) Edwards.
No formal memorial service is planned for Lorraine. A small service is planned for this summer as her ashes will be scattered in a special place.
Lorraine’s family would like to express our sincerest appreciation to the Saskatoon Cancer Centre, the Herb Bassett Home, Dr. Bosch, Dr. De Villiers, the Royal University Hospital, and the Victoria Union Hospital for their expert and loving care during Lorraine’s final time with us.
