JONES – DELBERT
1928 – 2020
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Delbert Jones announce his peaceful passing on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, in Tisdale, SK. at the age of 92.
Delbert was born in Shellbrook, SK. on September 23, 1928. In his younger years, he worked part-time on the dray & in the general store. In the winter he worked part-time hauling grain, gravel & sawing wood (for 5 to 10 cents a load). Over the course of his 46-year long career as a Parts man, he worked for several different employers who ran the local Ford dealership in Shellbrook beginning with Agnew Motors & concluding with Naber Ford.
Delbert married Alice Elizabeth (Betty) Barkway on November 2, 1951. They had two daughters, Linda, and Marilyn.
Delbert was very involved in the Shellbrook Community. He was a lifetime member of the Shellbrook Elks Lodge and spent many hours volunteering at bingo nights and sports days. He was employed as a projectionist at the Shellbrook Elks Theatre. He was also a proud past master of the Masonic Lodge. Delbert enjoyed fishing, golfing, and curling. In his later years, he loved to listen to old-time music.
Delbert and Betty enjoyed traveling. They went on several trips including Maritimes, Branson, California, and Alaska. Together they enjoyed camping, including many trips to BC picking fruit and sightseeing.
After Betty passed away, Delbert moved to Caleb Village in Tisdale to be near his family. He spent his last seven years living in Caleb Village & Newmarket Manor.
Delbert will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Linda (Bill) Woolley of Tisdale, SK; Marilyn (Gordon) Wunderlich of Saskatoon, SK., his grandchildren: David Woolley (pre-deceased) his children, Wynter & Dylan of Edmonton, AB; Michael (Stacy) Woolley & their children Shaye & Bryn of Tisdale, SK; Nicole (John) Kearns & their children Alice & Lucy of Saskatoon, SK; Lorielle (Christopher) Antonopoulos & their children Evelyn & Maisie of Saskatoon, SK.
Delbert is predeceased by his wife Betty, his mother Hester, three half-sisters Rita, Beryl & Iris & his grandson David.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions, the family will have a small private service held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Shellbrook, SK. with Rev. Emmanuel Aristide officiating. In lieu of tributes, memorial donations may be made in memory of Delbert to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
