The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has identified two positive COVID-19 cases associated with Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division (SRPSD).

An individual at École Vickers Public School has tested positive for COVID-19. Since this is the second case in a non-household setting, the SHA is confirming an active outbreak at the school and continues to investigate.

An individual at John Diefenbaker Public School has also tested positive for COVID-19. Communication has been shared with the classrooms/cohorts, the connected staff, as well as with the school communities.

Students are currently on their winter break and will be returning to remote learning on Monday, Jan 4. 2021. SRPSD Superintendent of Schools Tom Michaud said it’s important to maintain open communication with families and the general community.

“Although schools are closed for the break, possible exposures can still be tied to school operations prior to the break and community exposures could also have impacts once school services resume in January,” Michaud said in an email to paNOW. “We believe ongoing, transparent communications provide valuable information to guide individuals’ decisions and minimize the impacts of COVID-19 in the general community.”

Students in both the Prince Albert public and separate school divisions have not been in the classroom since Dec. 11. A decision was made to move to remote learning as a preventative measure in response to public health recommendations based on the increased rates of community transmission of COVID-19.In-person classroom instruction is scheduled to resume on Jan. 18, 2021.

The person who tested positive will need to stay in self-isolation until Dec. 27. They will not be sharing details to protect the identity of the person.
