National horse racing event galloping into Prince Albert
The Prince Albert area is less than a week away from hosting a national competition that hasn’t happened in ten years.
Towards Lily Plain, horseback riders are getting ready to welcome riders from all over the prairies for the 2026 Canadian Endurance Championship. Hosted by the Saskatchewan Long Riders, equestrians will take part of one of two endurance races, a 50 mile (80km) race or a 100 mile (160km) race, over the course of August 7-9.
It’s an exciting time for Joylyn Erb with the Saskatchewan Long Riders. She said it’s an honour to be hosting the first national championship in a decade.
“The last national event for endurance in Canada was in 2016, so it’s been ten years since an event like this has been held. So we are extremely excited that we got asked as the host province to do this and we have four provinces that are going to be represented here at nationals. That’ll be British Columbia, Alberta, obviously Saskatchewan and Manitoba.”
