Pat Gunn 1930 – 2020
It is with heavy hearts, the family of Francis Patricia (Pat) Gunn advise of her passing on December 16, 2020, at the Luther Special Care Home in Saskatoon.
Born October 15, 1930, in Wells, Somerset, England, Pat grew up on the Coles family farm in Foxdale, married and raised her family at a neighboring farm in Foxdale. Pat was a young widow when she became one of the original staff at the time the Shellbrook Nursing Home opened; loving her job to retirement in 1995 when she left the farm and moved into Shellbrook. Her passion for friends, family, gardening, curling, golf, politics, and travel kept her busy. Her active involvements in the St. Andrews Anglican Church, the Shellbrook Auxiliary/Legion, CNIB, and the Shellbrook Housing Authority were interrupted by the on-set of Alzheimer’s, leaving her beloved home, yard, and community in 2012. Following that her greatest pleasure were her return visits to Shellbrook and Foxdale.
Patricia is loved and remembered by her sister Sheila Coles of Prince Albert, sister-in-law Ruth Coles also of Prince Albert; children Derek (Martha McDonagh), Gerald (Arlene), and Janet; grandchildren Geoffrey (Mallory), Winnipeg, Cameron (Alexandra), Regina, Phillip (Suvisa), Calgary, and Patrick of Vanderhoof; great-grandchildren Albert, Zacharia, Anthony, and Athena; the Coles and Gunn nieces & nephews and their families; cousins Nellie Berherski of Saskatoon and George Benjafield of Plymouth, England; and her many friends and their families. Pat was predeceased by her parents, Fay and Don Coles, her parents’ in-laws Mabel and George Gunn Sr, husband George Gunn Jr, brother Les Coles, the in-laws, Lois (Ron) Everett, Victor (Gertie) Gunn, Clara Coles, Glenna (Lee) England, Jessie (Gary) Crabbe, nieces Zena-Marie, Sharon and Barbara, nephews Garry and Gordon, and Pat’s very special cousin Audrey Vaughn, Surrey, England (these women hosted each other’s visits over a span of 70 years).
The family wishes to thank the staff of Luther Special Care, the Franklin Retirement Community, Dr. N. Khayyam, and ophthalmologist Dr. Ravi for their supportive and compassionate care of our mother, sister, aunt, and friend. The interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of tributes, memorial donations may be made in memory of Patricia to the Honeywood Farms, Parkside Sask.
