French Society of Prince Albert hosts online Christmas cooking competition

Dec 13, 2020 | 10:00 AM

The upcoming holidays could look quite different for many families in Prince Albert, with more time spent indoors with a small circle, rather than getting together with friends and family to sled, ice fish, and experience everything the great outdoors has to offer.

To compensate for this, the French Society of Prince Albert is hosting an online Christmas cooking competition starting today to help with family bonding and staying busy.

Anyone can join the contest from the comfort of their own home. The goal of the French Society is to break the cycle of isolation and provide an enjoyable family experience.

According to the French Society, your recipe need not be expensive or time-consuming. They encourage you to have fun and use food you already have at home to limit trips to the grocery store.

Development coordinator, Sylvie Charpentier says the dishes can be whatever you like.

“It’s just a way for us to get together during COVID. We thought of this idea for people to interact with us, and have fun, Charpentier said. “The food can be an entrée, a soup, salad, dainties, or any type of festive food.”

There will be two divisions you can enter. A family category, or an individual category. Prizes will be awarded to first and second place in each division. First place will receive a $100 pre-paid Visa card. Second place will receive a $50 pre-paid Visa card.

Dishes will be voted on based on presentation, originality, and the equilibrium of the dish.

To enter the contest, a photo of your entry can be sent by private message to the French Society of Prince Albert (SCFPA) Facebook page. They will then post your dish to their main page, where it will be voted on by the public. Pictures with the most likes will win.

Your entry can be a photo of your dish, or if you put it together with your family you can take a selfie or group shot with the dish. A brief description of your entry and recipe can be added as well.

The contest begins today and will close at 5 p.m. on December 27.
