COVID-19 provincial report

SHA reports 78 new COVID-19 cases, breaks daily case record

Oct 24, 2020 | 2:01 PM

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) reported 78 new COVID-19 cases in the province on Saturday —the highest one-day total recorded by the province to date.

The previous record was 66 back on Oct. 19.

Of the new cases, 33 are from Saskatoon, 21 from Regina, 11 from North Central, three each in the Far North West, North East and Central East zone, two in the North West and one each in the Far North East and the South East zones.

The SHA said many of the new cases in Saskatoon are largely due to socializing in bars and nightclubs by young adults. The Longbranch Bar outbreak has linked 47 cases together, while 22 are linked to Diva’s nightclub and seven to Outlaws Country Rock Bar.

Regina’s transmission seems to be with close family contacts with known cases.

There are now 2,669 reported cases, 574 of which are active.

Twenty-one people are in hospital. Seventeen people are receiving inpatient care; eight in the Saskatoon zone, one in the Regina zone, and eight in the North zone. Four people are in intensive care; three in Saskatoon and one in Regina.
