Buckland Fire Dept. responds to recycling bin fire

A firebug in the Rural Municipality (RM) of Buckland may have a serious distaste for recycling.

For the fourth time in just under two months, the recycling bin located near the mailboxes off Red Wing Road has been torched. Reeve Don Fyrk told paNOW he hopes it’s just a passing fancy for somebody

“I know the city went through a whole bunch of fires in the west flat that were arson fires. I just hope they haven’t moved out to the RM,” he said.

Fyrk explained once the recycling bin has cooled off, it will be moved to Buckland Arena, which has a wide open parking lot.

“It’s dangerous because it’s right at the edge of the forest and if it gets into that forest then oh my God,” Fyrk said.

The Chief of the Buckland Fire. Dept. confirmed for paNOW there has been a number of fires in the past two months in the RM, and they remain under active investigation.
