Operations return to normal at Sask. Pen following positive COVID-19 case

Just over a week after confirmation of a positive case of COVID-19 at Saskatchewan Penitentiary, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is providing an update on the situation.

At the time of the initial report by medical health officer Dr. Saqib Shahab, the media was informed the staff member who tested positive had no contact with any inmates and was at home self-isolating. In addition, 29 other staff members were home self-isolating as a precaution which had an obvious direct impact on operations.

In a statement provided to paNOW on Friday, the CSC advised when the initial case was reported, immediate actions were taken to conduct comprehensive contact tracing, implement self-isolation protocols and work closely with public health to ensure additional testing of close contacts was conducted.

“These tests have now come back negative and no further positive cases have been identified linked to that site at this time,” the statement said.
