COVID-19 outbreak declared at Saskatoon high school

According to Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools (GSCS), there is a COVID-19 outbreak at Holy Cross High School in Saskatoon.

Someone who tested positive was in the school near the end of September.

No information has been released on whether it was a student or a staff member.

“Risk of exposure for anyone not considered a close contact remains low. Classes will continue as scheduled,” a release from GSCS reads.

As it is outlined in the Safe Schools Plan, “if two individuals within a school test positive for COVID-19, an outbreak is declared for that school.”

Keeping schools open is not out of the ordinary in this situation.

“The declaration of an outbreak does not automatically result in school closure. Like outbreaks in acute care, long-term care, or business settings, an outbreak declaration may be triggered by a low number of cases but is used by public health to mobilize and coordinate a response to the infection,” the plan reads.
