Candle Lake road project put on hold due to soft ground conditions from high water levels

The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure has delayed the work on improving Highway 265 that runs through the Village of Candle Lake.

The ground beneath the road surface has been “weakened” by high water levels in the area this spring and summer, according to the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure. There is also standing water on parts of the road.

Candle Lake Mayor Borden Wasyluk said most of the work on the road is done, but there are some trouble spots that have been heavily impacted.

“A lot of the road they’ve already completed, it’s ready for the paving stage,” Wasyluk said. “But it’s the last few miles that go between the swamp area towards the lake heading to downtown, that’s where the issues are.”
