There were no big surprises in the latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand estimates.

World corn stocks were up slightly at 317 million metric tonnes up two million metric tonnes while soybeans were up slightly at 95 million metric tonnes.

The projected soybean yield was surprising at 53.3 bushels an acre which would be a record.

Projected yields for the Canadian wheat crop was unchanged while the United States crop is in good shape heading into September but, more rain would be welcome.

British Columbia ranchers are the recipients of a national award.

The Seelhof Family of Horsefly, B.C. are the winners of the Environmental Stewardship (TESA) Award.

Ricky and Chad Seelhof with Woodjam Ranch run a 500 head black Angus cow-calf operation with cultivated land, native grassland, and crown grazing.

This year’s other TESA nominees were Thomas and Felicity Hagan from Manitoba, Deer Creek Livestock from Alberta, and Paul de Jong from Ontario.

As farmers head into the busy harvest season, they are reminded to make sure they are growing market ready crops.

The Keep it Clean program said applying pre-harvest glyphosate too early can result in unacceptable product residues in the harvested grain, which can create market risk.

The Canola Council of Canada said pre-harvest glyphosate should only be applied for weed control once grain moisture is less than 30 per cent in the least mature part of the field.
