Casino busy since reopening

The Northern Lights Casino has seen good business since reopening Thursday.

General Manager Richard Ahenakew said at times they are seeing a healthy number of people wanting to come through the doors.

“There’s a little bit of a line up starting usually about supper time,” he said.

The long line ups on opening day did not come as a surprise to Ahenakew as many other establishments in the country experienced the same thing when they reopened.

Due to current public health regulations, the casino is operating at only 60 per cent capacity. When people come to the entrance they are asked a few questions before being given a mask. Ahenakew said most people are supportive of the measures they have put in place.

“The majority of them are more than happy at the fact that we’ve made masks mandatory,” he said.

Ahenakew was not able to comment in regards to the total number of staff who have been called back to work. He said he has not had much time to speak with staff about being back, but added people are in general always happy to get back to work.

“We’ve been so busy, it’s tough to have those conversations,” he said.

Going forward, Ahenakew said they will be waiting for the province to give them the green light when it comes to resuming live games. He said once government makes those decisions they will be looking at what they can do.
