A Cargill meat-processing plant is closing temporarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At least 64 employees at the operation south of Montreal have tested positive for the virus.

More than 170 workers were sent home last week as a preventive measure with more testing continuing until Friday.

It’s the second time the company has experienced a pandemic closure at one of its Canadian facilities.

A Cargill beef-packing plant in High River, Alta. reopened last Monday after a two-week shut down.

HyLife has announced the purchase of ProVista’s hog farming operations.

ProVista is one of Canada’s largest independent hog farming operations with most of its production located in Manitoba.

The acquisition consists of 37,000 sows, nursery, and finishing barns with a production capacity of approximately one million hogs annually.

ProVista’s farms employs 252 people.
