P.C. Party questions government zoning off of the north

May 10, 2020 | 10:00 AM

The Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan is calling for the provincial government to review its policy of blocking off the north.

The party’s leader Ken Gray said in a media release that his party has been contacted by outfitters, cottage owners, and business owners who are not allowed to check in on their properties, which are not near outbreak zones.

Gray said he understands the need to isolate where infection rates are high but feels their needs to be some leeway. He cited one case where a business owner is being denied access despite being eight hours away from an outbreak site.

“In a week where fishing and hunting is officially allowed, its ironic the companies that facilitate this business off the provincial park system are not being allowed into their businesses, and cabin owners are not being allowed into their property,” he said.

In the same release, the party’s deputy leader and candidate for Saskatchewan Rivers, Shaun Harris said he has been contacted by business owners who have been separated from their equipment and are frustrated with the response they have got from their Sask. Party and NDP MLAs.

“It’s pretty sad when their own elected representatives don’t bother to explain the government’s position or raise the problems associated with that decision with the decision-makers in government,” he said.
