Arts in the air in Prince Albert

Despite COVID-19 restrictions the city of Prince Albert is finding a way to appreciate and support the arts.

The city’s arts and culture department is currently seeking Prince Albert and area artists to send in their original music to be played in P.A’s downtown.

“This was one way to look out for our local musicians who we know have lost all kinds of gigs and festivals,” Arts and Culture Coordinator Judy MacLeod Campbell told paNOW. “We wanted to support local folks first. We’re definitely feeling for these artists.”

Until June 10, 2020 artists can submit their CD’s through the City of Prince Albert’s website. Once submitted and accepted, artists will receive $25 for every CD (a limit of two CD’s per artist).

Not only is the experience expected to be enriching for artists, MacLeod Campbell said it’s cool for people walking around the downtown shopping or grabbing coffee to be able to listen to a local band.

Funding for the project is being provided by SaskCulture and Saskatchewan Lotteries. The music will be played over the Prince Albert Down Business Improvement District new sound system at the Arts Centre.

Hall of Fame

The Prince Albert Arts Board has put the call out for nominations to this year’s hall of fame.

Chair of the Arts Board, Shauna Stapleton explained they are currently seeking nominations, despite the fact COVID-19 has left them unsure exactly how and when they will be able hold induction celebrations.

“We would like to see all the categories covered. We typically induct three to four people a year. If we can continue to do that and recognize every aspect of the arts community that would be amazing,” Stapleton told paNOW.

Nominations can be found on the board’s website. Applications must be submitted by May 31, 2020.
