COVID-19 spread continues in La Loche, new outbreak declared in Meadow Lake

Moe said provincial officials continue to monitor the situation and provide units for people who are unable to self-isolate in their homes.

Of the 512 cases, 194 are considered active. There are two new recoveries, bringing the provincial total to 312.

There are 13 people in hospital. Nine are receiving inpatient care (there are two in the North and seven in Saskatoon) and four people are in intensive care (three are in Saskatoon and one in the North).

Of the province’s cases, 139 are travellers, 204 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 45 have no known exposures and 124 remain under public health investigation.

In Saskatchewan, 43 cases are health care workers (although not all sourced their infection from work), there are 163 cases from the Saskatoon area, 152 from the Far North, 95 from the North, 76 from the Regina area, 15 from the South, and 11 from the central region.

There are 66 cases involving people aged 19 and under.

There are 182 cases in the 20 to 39 age range, 159 in the 40 to 59 age range, 90 are in the 60 to 79 age range and 15 in the 80-plus age range.

Fifty per cent of cases are males and 50 per cent are females.

Six people have died from COVID-19 in the province.

Meadow Lake outbreak at hospital

A staff member at the Meadow Lake Hospital has tested positive for COVID-19. The case was linked to community-transmission, according to the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

To date, no patients have presented with symptoms of the virus.

The staff member and close contacts are now self-isolating while additional contact tracing is underway.

The province states there is no service disruption at the hospital. Emergency department, including emergency surgical and obstetrical services remain available. Depending on ongoing risk assessments, that service availability is subject to change.

Northern Travel restricted further

The public health order restricting non-essential travel in the Northern Saskatchewan Administration District will be amended to include Stony Rapids and La Ronge.

The amendment is effective today.

The measure is to ensure only essential travel happens throughout the province’s North and to further prevent the spread of COVID-19.
