Less than four days after being released from custody, a man from Sturgeon Lake First Nation is facing a long list of new charges.

Leroy Daniels, 25, was arrested on March 19, in connection to a vehicle theft from the Driftwood Trailer Park. According to police, the owner was threatened at gunpoint.

The stolen truck was later located at Sturgeon Lake, but when the officers attempted to approach the vehicle, the driver sped off at a high rate of speed.

The truck was eventually brought to a halt near Little Red Reserve after a spike belt was deployed. At this point the driver attempted to flee on foot but didn’t get far.

Daniels has been scheduled to make his next court appearance on April 3rd at Prince Albert Provincial Court. His charges include robbery, possession of a weapon, flight from police, wearing a disguise with intent to commit a crime and failure to comply with a probation order.

paNOW has learned that Daniels who has a previous history of charges related to vehicle thefts, was released from custody on March 16.

On that day, he pled guilty to a number of charges including possession of ammunition and fail to attend court. Daniels, who spent some time in pre-sentence custody, was sentenced to time already served and was subsequently released.
