Prince Albert working on COVID-19 plan

Mar 12, 2020 | 6:04 PM

Top city of Prince Albert staff spent Wednesday and Thursday in meetings working on a plan in response to the threat of COVID-19.

The city is in the process of tweaking its existing municipal emergency plan which includes an pandemic plan.

City Manager Jim Toye told paNOW more information would be released tomorrow on if and when city events and facilities would be cancelled or closed.

“We want to be proactive rather than reactive,” he said. “Hard decisions are going to be made over the next few days, but it’s for the protection and safety of our citizens and people visiting Prince Albert.”

In the meantime, the city has cancelled an event at the EA Rawlinson Centre Thursday night.

Toye reminded the public the risk posed by COVID-19 to Prince Albert and Saskatchewan remains low, but people should take precautions.

“We want to make sure that people are washing their hands frequently, if they need to cough, cough into their arm, and don’t go into any large crowds,” he said.

The city’s COVID-19 plan is expected to be released Friday morning.

Editor’s Note: This story has been amended to make clear that the city cancelled an event at the EA Rawlinson on Thursday, not Friday night.
