Prince Albert will offer swimming lessons in French

The City of Prince Albert has announced the dates for the summer aquatic season.

Registration for swimming lessons will begin in April 20, and this year for the first time classes will be offered in French.

Aquatic recreation programmer, Laren Haubrich, told paNOW they created the French lessons to serve the Francophone community in the region, and already have many bilingual instructors on staff.

“There are a ton of children in Prince Albert speaking both English and French simultaneously as they grow up,” she said. “There aren’t a ton of opportunities for recreation programs offered in French aside from if they’re at school.”

The Kinsmen water park is scheduled to open June 5.

“It’s always a lot of fun looking towards the water park,” Haubrich said. “It’s definitely a challenge with the amount of people that we have coming through the doors, but all the lifeguards are really looking forward to getting back at the outdoor facility.”

The 2019 season was the busiest the water park has seen in six years, with 30,098 visits registered from June to August.
