Saskatchewan Mom Wins National Working Parent Scholarship

Feb 25, 2020 | 9:39 AM

Job-Applications.ca announced today that a Prince Albert, Saskatchewan mom won the most recent round of the company’s Working Parent Scholarship. In this round, Job-Applications.ca recognized the efforts of one student in Canada who balances the difficult tasks of parenthood, working and seeking a higher education.

The sole winner of this round’s $1,000 Working Parent Scholarship is Kimberly Rock, 34, of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Rock, the mother of a four-year-old daughter, is in her final year at Athabasca University where she is studying psychology.

“I’m so grateful and appreciative of being chosen as the recipient of this award,” Rock said. “Being a working parent is extremely challenging, and having an extra $1,000 helps to ensure I can meet all my financial obligations with just a little less stress.”

“Equally important is the validation that this award provides me: that my hard work is noticed and that it is worth the effort to apply for different scholarships, bursaries, and awards,” Rock said.

Job-Applications.ca, one of the leading job application resources available in Canada, created the Working Parent Scholarship to help families obtain a better education and build a career. Applicants submit an essay on how to successfully balance parenthood, working and excelling in school. To date, between Job-Applications.ca and its U.S. counterpart, Job-Applications.com, more than $30,000 has been awarded to working parents in Canada and in 22 states throughout the U.S.

“The financial strain on working parents returning to school is real. Our Working Parent Scholarship is our way to help reduce some of that pressure,” said Job-Applications.ca President Doug Crawford. “We are pleased to award this scholarship to Kimberly. We know she will continue to do great work!”
