Petition calls for stricter traffic control at East Flat intersection

A group of East Flat residents was at P.A. city hall on Monday night to ask councillors to take steps to combat what they say has become a dangerous intersection.

A petition to have a four-way stop or another traffic control measure installed at the corner of Fourth St. E. and 10th Ave. E. intersection gathered 135 signatures.

“The people that live on the corner… they’ve lived there for over 30 years and have had their fence repaired a number of time because of accidents,” resident Clara Allard told council, speaking on behalf of the petition writers.

She noted Fourth Street has become increasingly busy and suspects some commuters may take it instead of 15th St. E to avoid traffic lights.

Mayor Greg Dionne noted the two cement barriers installed along the edge of a property at the crossroads in question indicated to him the area has been a problem for a while.

Coun. Don Cody agreed.

“I drive the thing two, three, four time a day and I can tell you, it is a hazardous place,” he said.

Council voted to have administration study the intersection.

A report with traffic counts and accident statistics will come to a future council meeting for further discussion.
