P.A. curler prepares for Scotties Tournament

Prince Albert’s Kara Kilden is getting very excited about the upcoming Viterra Scotties Tournament of Hearts Provincials.

Kilden is a member of Team Silvernagle, one of eight teams that have qualified for the Jan. tournament.

“We had a really good bonspiel season this fall and we were using that as a training ground for play downs,” said Kilden.

The Viterra Scotties Tournament of Hearts Provincials runs Jan. 27 to 31 at the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club, which will offer Kilden a chance to play at home.

“It’s nice to have all the friends and family that are able to come. I started curling in Birch Hills so that’s really close, and I have a lot of people that are asking and wanting to come watch,” she said.

This tournament will mark Kilden’s second time at provincials in the women’s division. She has also competed at provincials in the mixed and junior divisions.

“Every game you have to take differently depending on who you’re playing,” she said of the teams’ strategy.

Eight teams have so far now qualified for the competition:

Sherry Anderson (Saskatoon)

Penny Barker (Moose Jaw)

Robyn Silvernagle (North Battleford)

Jolene Campbell (Regina)

Nancy Martin (Martensville)

Kim Schreider (Kronau)

The final four teams will be determined at the Viterra Women’s Last Chance tournament in Humboldt Jan. 15 to 17.
