Mintos head to Mac’s playoffs with win over previously undefeated Buffaloes

Dec 30, 2019 | 4:04 PM

It was a ‘win and you’re in’ situation for the Prince Albert Mintos on Monday at the Mac’s Midget AAA World Invitational Tournament, against the 3-0 Calgary Buffaloes.

But the Mintos were able to seize the opportunity and hand the Buffaloes their first defeat of the tournament, with a 5-1 victory.

Joel Favreau, who’s been a puck stopping machine for the Mintos, made 31 saves on 32 shots to secure the win for the Mintos, who will advance to the playoffs with a 2-0-2 record.

Josh Peppler, Dawson Springer, Gage Helm, Chase Pauls and Ashton Ferster all scored for the Mintos.

The Mintos will play in the Mac’s playoffs, which will start on Tuesday in Calgary. The Mintos will await who they will match up against.

Editor’s note: this article was amended to make clear the player in the cutline of the picture is Austin McLean, not Ty McLean as originally published.
