Warmer weather to launch 2020

Dec 30, 2019 | 2:01 PM

It’s a pretty benign weather outlook as we get set to wave goodbye to 2019. It won’t be sunny, nor will it be frigid as we welcome in a new year and new decade with temperatures noticeably warmer than the seasonal average.

The cause of the abnormally pleasant scenario is due in part to the lack of clear sky.

“There’s a bank of low cloud that is moving down from the north and that’ll stay in the area for the next few days,” Eric Dykes, a meteorologist with Environment Canada told paNOW. “It’ll stay cloudy for the most part into New Year’s Day with highs around the minus two to minus three range which is almost 10 degrees higher for this time of year.”

The overnight low for New Year’s Eve is not expected to get below -4 C. The average low for this time of year is around -25 C.
