James Malcolm MacDonald
Feb. 7, 1921 – Dec. 19, 2019, Prince Albert, SK
We sadly announce the passing of Jim MacDonald, a dear husband, father, uncle and friend. He spent his entire lifetime farming east of Prince Albert in the Sask Forks (Steep Creek) district. As a young man, he worked hard, from threshing crews to logging camps in SK and Ontario. He enjoyed carpentry and along with building his own house, he was able to help several others in the community with various projects. He was a strong and intelligent man who worked hard to provide a good home for his family. He was blessed with a wonderful memory, a strong moral compass and social conscience, and an appreciation for history and the sacrifices of others.
He was a strong believer in the principles of democracy and the co-operative movement. In 1998 he was honoured to receive the SK Co-operative Order of Merit Award for his many years of community service with various organizations such as the Weldon Credit Union (President on the Board of Directors) and P.A. Co-op (Secretary on the Board of Directors). He also served on the RM of P.A. Planning Review Board and was a member of the Sask. Wheat Pool, Hudson Bay Route Association, East Central recreation committee, and was a local 4-H leader.
He was predeceased by his parents: John and Lily (née Given) MacDonald; his sister: Harriet (Hattie) in 1936; his brother: Kenneth; his nephew: Neil; his mother and father-in-law: Annie and William Spademan; his sister-in-law: Gaye Spademan; his brothers-in-law: John Scragg, Clarence Neilson and Richard McCarthy; his niece: Kimberly Klaas (Spademan); and his nephew: Robert McCarthy.
He will be fondly remembered by his wife of 59 years: Rosemary; his daughters: Jill, Faye and Lily; his sister-in-law: Ivy MacDonald and family, Donna and Don Thorsen, Lynne and Lenny Gunville, Kenny and Cindy MacDonald, Cameron and Anita MacDonald, Colleen MacDonald, Myrna and Scott Ridley and their families; his sisters and brothers-in-law: Shirley Neilson, Robert and Maria Spademan, Heather and Bob Bunton, Elizabeth McCarthy, Joe and Penny Spademan, Ethel and Donald MacLeod, Bertha Given, Art Spademan, Sandy and Margriet Spademan and their families; and many dear friends and neighbours.
