Kenneth Sumlic

Kenneth James Sumlic originally from Weirdale, SK, passed away at the age of 73 years, at the Victoria Hospital, in Prince Albert, SK. He was born on Thursday, May 16, 1946, the son of the late Rose and Joseph Sumlic. Kenneth grew up in Weirdale, SK, on a farm with his parents and two siblings, Garry and Shirley. Ken left school in 1963 to join the Airforce, taking Military Police training in Bordon, ON. Ken spent 5 years overseas in Germany, at which time he toured many counties. His career as a Military Police Officer station him in Dana, SK from 1971 to 1973; Camp Bordon, ON from 1973 to 1975; Suffield, AB from 1975 to 1980; Moncton, NB from 1980 to 1984; and Moose Jaw, SK from 1984 to 1990. While in Bordon, ON, he met his wife, Darlene. They were married in Suffield, AB. Ken retired from the Airforce in 1990 holding the rank of Sergeant. He returned to Prince Albert working part-time as a Commissionaire. In his spare time he enjoyed restoring old tractors and trying his luck at the casino. Ken is survived by his brother, Garry; his nephew, Scott (Jami) and their children, Lowen and Tayen; his niece, Nicole Sumlic (Derek Thoth) and their children, Chase and Hailey; his niece, Shawna Florness (Warren) and their children, Kohl and Jake; his niece, Shannon Hoiness (Jeff) and their children, Cassidy and Dylan; his auntie, Betty; his special friend, Wally; his daughter, Debbie Crowley-Leblanc (Todd); his grandchildren, Tristian, Mikaila, Jae, Cody; his great-grandsons, Gage, Madden and Reign. He was predeceased by his parents, Rose and Joseph Sumlic; his sister, Shirley; his brother-in-law, Vern Somerfelt; his sister-in-law, Joan, wife of his brother Garry; his wife, Darlene Sumlic (nee Crowley). A very special thank you to Wally, Nicole, and Garry, the 5th floor staff of palliative care, and Dr. LeRoux. A Celebration of Life will be held for Ken at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at River Park Funeral Home, 301 River Street West, Prince Albert, SK, Pastor Nora Vedress officiating. Veterans Honours conferred by the officers and members of the Prince Albert Royal Canadian Legion Branch #2.
