Tuesday marks Fuel Good Day across Western Canada as local Co-ops fundraise for community groups.

In Prince Albert and area, Lake Country Co-op will donate five cents to the Prince Albert SPCA from every litre of gas sold. Besides the money from fuel sales, the Co-op as well plans to donate $1 from every coffee or Slurpee sold. Employees from the Co-op were also selling burgers and drinks from a barbecue out front.

Volunteers from the SPCA were also present during the barbecue. They brought two dogs, Quill and Kirby who are both up for adoption.

Mary Coyle, a volunteer with the SPCA said the occasion provides an important opportunity for the organization which has lots of expenses, including medical costs.

“This is great exposure as a fundraiser and also to get them some new homes,” she said.

Coyle, who is also a Co-op employee said one of the things she likes about working for them is the work they do in the community.

The pumps were busy early in the afternoon with many people coming to fill up. One of the people who rolled in was Maggie Bergen who wanted to support the SPCA and waited until today to fill up her vehicle.

“I thought it was a great day to come out and show support,” she said.

Bergen said it’s good to see a local business focused on the community and stressed how important the local SPCA chapter is locally.

In P.A. the last barbecue is set to run from 4 to 6 p.m. at the gas bar on Marquis.

Update: Lake Country Co-op announced on Friday Sept. 20 that Fuel Good Day 2019 raised $10,322.
