Democrat Amish Shah won election Thursday to the U.S. House of Representatives representing Arizona’s 1st Congressional District, defeating Republican Jay Feely. Shah is an emergency room doctor and former state legislator. He ran for the seat two years ago but lost narrowly to Rep. David Schweikert, who is now retiring. Feely is a former NFL kicker and broadcaster. The candidates briefly overlapped at the New York Jets, where Shah was a team doctor and Feely was a player during the 2008 and 2009 seasons. The Associated Press declared Shah the winner at 12:02 p.m. EST.
