Doerkson won’t rule out shortened fall session after B.C. election win

VICTORIA — B.C.’s newly minted Conservative government won’t take its seats in the legislature until at least mid-November, but the premier-designate is not ruling out a shortened fall session.

Lorne Doerkson told reporters Sunday, a day after his big election victory, that he was keeping the option open to recall the legislature in the fall.

The Conservatives were elected with about two-thirds of the province’s 93 seats in the legislature, giving the party its first majority government in nearly a century.

Doerkson has laid out some of his government’s early priorities, such as an independent review of provincial finances and an expert commission to keep hospital emergency rooms open and cut down wait times.
