Terry Fox Run feeling the community support heading into weekend

Earlier we introduced you to this year’s honourary chair Kim Pagé, who inspired coworkers from the Prince Albert Raiders and the team themselves to show up for the steak dinner. Mitchell said that having Pagé as this year’s honourary chair is having the exact effect they hoped it would: expanding the Terry Fox Run’s reach to a knew group of people.

“Every year you name new honorary chair, it reaches a new crowd of people. So Kim has a lot of community connections and stuff, so it’s definitely helped out a lot this year, bringing in new businesses, community organizations and a new audience of people to get involved with our run.”

As of Tuesday night before the numbers from the steak dinner came in, the Terry Fox Run had already raised over $15,000 of their $34,000 goal they set, and that’s before some of the big donations they rely on yearly have been added to the pot.

Also, the Terry Fox Run will be the recipients of the funds from the chuck-a-puck from this coming Friday’s Raider game.

For now though, the focus is put on the auction to help them raise more before the run itself comes on Sunday. Mitchell said it’s taken a huge community effort to put the auction together.

“We have donations from all local businesses and community organizations and it’s 41 different prizes you can bid on. There’s stuff for kids, there’s a hockey net, a bucket golf, there’s Raiders tickets, there’s a photography session, a couple different gift cards for different restaurants in PA, again, all donated by our community. So that’s a big fundraiser that we’re hoping will bring in quite a bit of money towards our run.”
