STRASBOURG — Prime Minister Mark Carney says an enhanced partnership with the European Union will be put up for debate and a final vote in Parliament.
During a news conference in Strasbourg, France, today, the prime minister adds that Canada is not looking to become a full member in the European Union.
Earlier today in an address to the European Parliament, Carney said he welcomes the ambition of European Council President Ursula von der Leyen to see Canada become the first associate member of the EU.
Canadian officials had previously downplayed the characterization of a deeper alliance with Europe as being an associate member and the formal name is still being finalized.
