August long weekend promises to be a windy one

Wind gusts could reach upwards of 50 km/h on Saturday as the temperatures build. High temperatures Saturday and Sunday should hover around 30 C. As the system reaches the area on Saturday, those windy conditions will increase, according to Dosanjh.

The wind will likely continue to be an issue on Monday. However, the wind will shift and bring with it cloudy conditions and cooler temperatures on Monday, with the forecast high about five degrees below normal.

“This system will push through the area most of the weekend and will have an influence [on] the area,” Dosanjh said. “The big thing to note would be strong winds are expected this weekend – more specifically, the stronger ones look to be early next week, moreso on Monday.”

Once the system vacates the province after Monday, a high-pressure system will take its place, bringing some unsettled conditions but not much in the way of precipitation. Daytime highs should be around normal for most of next week. There could be a system that affects the northeast on Wednesday, depending on how far south it tracks.

“For now, we’re just focused…on this weekend, and more specifically the wind threat,” Dosanjh said. “As everyone will be enjoying time out on the weekend, we want to be mindful that it’s always a good reminder to secure any loose outdoor items, especially if you’re out camping.”
