Prince Albert Exhibition less than a week away

The four-day exhibition has plenty of new attractions this year, including new animals at the petting zoo like alpacas and Nigerian dwarf goats. But that’s far from the only new event going on.

“We’re actually having an open mic from 3 p.m. till 6 p.m., so I’d like to invite all those folks that have some talent singing or dancing or whatever they might like to showcase. We are still accepting entries for that. We’ve got the music bingo that will be happening in the armory, and then we’re really excited to have Carmen Robertson with Dark Horse, and Kings and Renegades.”

Carmen Robertson with Dark Horse takes to the main hall stage on Wednesday, then Kings and Renegades, and returning act Rez Boys will run both Friday and Saturday. All performances are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. There will also be an open mic session each day from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Once again, West Coast Amusements is bringing the rides into the exhibition this year. Despins is proud to be working with a Canadian company while showcasing Prince Albert. With a large selection of old and new rides, Despins believes there will be something for everyone.

“Understanding sometimes rides do need maintenance. So there are times that things do get changed up, but we’re excited to have I think it’s about 35 wonderful rides that’ll provide a lot of fun for people coming on site.”

Last year, the Prince Albert Exhibition made a significant effort to beef up security around the ex after incidents the year prior. That same level of security is going to be present this year, and based off what they heard last year, Despins said that it should help people enjoy the exhibition again this year worry free.

“We have had some absolutely wonderful feedback from the general public. We wand everyone that does come into the gates, and there’s also bag checks that do happen. We have quite a long list of security personnel on site as well as Prince Albert City Police will be here and we’re hoping the Marshals will also come. Everything in that regard is sort of centralized in our log house and so lost and found is there and first aid is there.”

Additionally, the city’s annual Exhibition Parade is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, beginning at Central Avenue and 14 Street East. The parade will then move north along Central Avenue toward River Street and then proceed east to 6 Avenue East, ending at 6 Avenue East and Exhibition Drive. Barricades will be set up along the parade route, and parking will be prohibited along Central Avenue and adjacent side streets beginning mid-afternoon on Tuesday.

The exhibition office will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. this coming Saturday and Sunday, Aug 1-2, for people to come buy their tickets. Other locations you can get your tickets at are Canadian Tire, Harold’s Family Foods, Lake Country Co-op Medical Pharmacy on Central, Peter Ballantine Cree Nation Fuel and Convenience on 2nd Ave, and Petro Canada on 22nd St.
