Contraband worth $67K seized at Saskatchewan Penitentiary

Jul 29, 2026 | 11:19 AM

Packages containing methamphetamine and THC concentrate were seized at Saskatchewan Penitentiary on two separate days last week, according to the Correctional Service of Canada.

The seizures happened July 25 and July 27 after staff members detected packages containing contraband and unauthorized items. CSC said the total estimated institutional value of the seized items is $67,100.

The federal agency said it uses several tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions, including ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.

CSC said it is increasing measures aimed at keeping contraband out of correctional facilities and maintaining a safe environment for staff, visitors and inmates. The agency said it also works with police to take action against anyone attempting to bring contraband into federal institutions.
