Prince Albert artist raises money for local theatre

The artist responsible for a new exhibit at Prince Albert’s John M. Cuelenaere Public Library hopes to one day see her creations come alive in the form of a science fiction drama television series.

Marjorie Roden has spent years creating the concept art and told paNOW she’s very open to feedback.

“I wanted to approach the public, get their opinions on these different images because the TV series, I wrote it as if it was in Prince Albert and area,” she said.

Roden is currently working on a master’s degree in fine arts, and had pitched the idea for the project to her professor.

“I’ve always loved writing. I was a student at SIAST in their media arts program before they went and sent it to Saskatoon. They should have kept it here, though, to be honest, because there are so many storytellers here.”

Upon completion of her degree, Roden aspires to teach adults and help other storytellers like herself.

In addition to her dream of seeing her television series come to life, Roden also wants to give back to the community. Half the sales from the art sold will go toward the library’s upkeep fund for the Mahon Theatre.

“I’ve shown a couple of my films downstairs and, I mean, that is a top-notch resource for artists,” she said, adding how much she enjoys the stage productions and improv shows put on by Off the Cuff.

“But there’s people who do films, there’s people who do other types of performances, and there’s other musical acts that have gone through there. That theater deserves a little bit more respect.”

Roden’s exhibit is running until August 26.
