A court case stemming from a fatal crash in Prince Albert and involving allegations of impaired driving is proceeding to a preliminary inquiry.

Donovan Sibanda’s matter has been scheduled for Dec. 2 in provincial court.

At the hearing, the presiding judge will hear the Crown’s evidence and determine whether to commit the case to trial. The judge may also alter the charges if there are others that better suit the alleged offence.

The crash occurred on Sept. 17, 2025, at the intersection of Marquis Road and Second Avenue West.

Two vehicles were involved, and all three occupants of the vehicle that was hit were taken to hospital, including 28-year-old Shawna Ratt, who later died from her injuries.

The other two patients were also seriously injured but were released from hospital after being treated.

Sibanda, the occupant of the other vehicle, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

He was later charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and dangerous driving.

Sibanda was previously released on bail and must abide by a number of conditions.
