Correctional Service Canada said staff at Saskatchewan Penitentiary seized contraband and unauthorized items with an estimated institutional value of $127,000 during three separate incidents earlier this month.

The seizures took place June 5, 9 and 11, according to a news release.

Among the items recovered were methamphetamine, THC concentrate and cocaine.

CSC said the packages were intercepted as a result of staff vigilance. Police have been notified and the incidents remain under investigation.

The federal agency said it uses a variety of measures to prevent drugs and other contraband from entering correctional facilities, including ion scanners and detector dogs that can be used to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.

CSC said it continues to strengthen efforts to keep contraband out of institutions and works with police to identify and investigate those involved in smuggling prohibited items into federal correctional facilities.

The agency also operates an anonymous tip line for information related to security concerns, including drug use and trafficking within federal institutions. The toll-free number is 1-866-780-3784.
